Free Field Guide for Business Owners

You Built Something Bigger Than the Advice You Started With

A free field guide for business owners who sense that their tax plan, their portfolio, and their exit are being managed in separate rooms, with no one holding the whole picture.

See the six signs a business has outgrown its current advisory setup, so you can name what has been nagging at you.
Understand the blind spots that show up when a business grows faster than the plan around it: concentration, reactive tax work, an exit that lives in concept and not in structure.
Get a short financial health checklist you can score yourself, in private, in about ten minutes.

What the Guide Helps You See

Most successful business owners already have good people. A CPA. An attorney. An advisor who returns calls. That is not the problem.

The problem is subtle. Each professional is competent inside a single lane, and no one is responsible for how the lanes connect. Your tax plan does not know what your estate plan assumes. Your investment account does not account for how much of your net worth still sits inside the business. Your exit lives in a conversation, not a structure.

This guide gives you a plain way to see those gaps before they cost you. Not a sales pitch. A map you can read on your own.

The BlueSky Difference

Many wealth management firms offer advice. We take responsibility.

We were founded in 1999, and we have spent 25-plus years working with families and business owners at exactly this stage.  Our founder, David L. Blain, is a CFA charterholder and a West Point graduate, which is a long way of saying we take duty and evidence seriously and we are boring on purpose with your money.

Account size alone doesn’t determine whether we’re the right fit. Our fees are based on the complexity of the work we do for you, not the size of your investment account. Our clients typically have $1.5M or more of money to invest and a total net worth between $5M and $50M. If a coordinated approach to your financial life sounds like what you’ve been looking for, we’d welcome the conversation.

That is the whole difference, and it shows up in how we are built:

Fee-only and NAPFA-registered.

We do not earn commissions, so our advice answers to you and not to a product.

A 25:1 client-to-staff ratio

So the people who know your situation have the room to actually know it.

One team

One team responsible for the full financial picture: tax, investments, retirement, exit, and estate, coordinated under one roof rather than handed between offices.

Four guiding principles

Respect, knowledge, integrity, and service. Service, for us, means taking genuine responsibility for how your financial life fits together and being accountable for the result.

Jim and Cathy

The guide follows a business owner named Jim and his wife, Cathy. Jim ran a profitable IT business with about 30 employees. High income, high taxes, long hours, and most of the family’s net worth locked inside the company.

Working with BlueSky, they stopped managing pieces and started coordinating the whole: goals first, then tax, retirement plan design, compensation, entity structure, personal diversification, real estate, estate planning, buy-sell planning, contingencies for disability and death, asset protection, and business continuity.

Years later, Jim sold the business to a Fortune 500 company. By then, the family had already built the foundation for life after the sale. The point of the story is not the sale. It is that the structure was in place long before the offer arrived.

This is a guide story summary, not a testimonial, and does not imply typical results or guarantee any outcome.
